I often retweet offers from local artisans. Be it food, fashion, whatever really, to me, if its local it is indeed lekker. Its a sad reality that we may not always be able to afford the “home” taste of these small producers. The little bakeries, delis and butcheries that compete with larger mass supermarkets obviously are not able to price their goods as competitively.
I do try however to support my local suppliers as much as possible. Their products are flavourful, and usually made with far more care. The freshness, quality and accessibilty is always worth saving up for treats in my case. A cannoli here, a bit of freerange sausage, farm cheese or sour dough bread is really the part of my everyday world that I relish the most.
