Target Hackers Accessed Card Data Through a Vendor

Business & Money

Target said Wednesday the hackers that broke into its system and stole millions of customer credit numbers got access to the data by first stealing credentials from a vendor.

A Target spokesperson said the thieves gained access to 40 million credit card numbers and the personal information of 70 million more people by lifting vendor credentials that gave them access to Target systems.

Target says it has taken special precautions since the breach became public on December 15 and that is working with the Secret Service and the Justice Department to resolve the situation.

Social Sales Success in the B2B Environment

jlnpr: PR + Marketing + Social Media

In this modern age, consumers look to their peers to know what they should purchase. ‘Social selling’ is based upon building a connection between the brand and consumer in a social media setting for a better and more connected sales experience.

A study by the CEB reports: “60% of the B2B buying process in a complex sale is already complete before the prospects are willing to engage with a live salesperson.” According to Ridge Consulting, the emerging trend is that B2Bs are increasingly using fully integrated social media, with 37% of those surveyed saying they will be very involved in social media in 2014 and only 4% reporting they would not use it.

Three separate companies shared statistics on how they utilized social selling to significant success. LinkedIn saw a 50% increase in converting leads, IBM saw a…

Dad Is Prepping Over 800 Napkin Notes for Daughter’s Lunchbox Before He Dies

NewsFeed

A father who has received three cancer diagnoses may not know how long he has to live, but in the time he has left, he is making sure that his daughter will find an inspiration message in her lunchbox every day until she graduates high school.

W. Garth Callaghan of Glen Allen, Virginia — aka “Napkin Note Dad” — has been writing tips and famous quotes on napkins and putting them in his daughter Emma’s lunchbox since she was in elementary school. Now his goal is to prepare 826 napkin notes, and photos on Imgur catalogue his progress, with help from the non-profit “because I said I would,” which promotes the importance of keeping promises. And recently, the 14-year-old has been writing napkin notes back to her dad, such as “an arrow can only be shot by pulling it backwards, so when life is dragging you back, it means it’s going to launch…

Supporting the Cornershop

Fiona Juan -Author and Coach

I often retweet offers from local artisans. Be it food, fashion, whatever really, to me, if its local it is indeed lekker. Its a sad reality that we may not always be able to afford the “home” taste of these small producers. The little bakeries, delis and butcheries that compete with larger mass supermarkets obviously are not able to price their goods as competitively.
I do try however to support my local suppliers as much as possible. Their products are flavourful, and usually made with far more care. The freshness, quality and accessibilty is always worth saving up for treats in my case. A cannoli here, a bit of freerange sausage, farm cheese or sour dough bread is really the part of my everyday world that I relish the most.
It would be lovely to see the mom and pop businesses flourish again as businesses gain more local support and…
